TOUGH TIMES CALL FOR NEW IDEAS
Parties That Cook, a San Francisco company that hosts cooking parties as corporate team-building events, typically sells packages for $75 to $115 per person. Chief Executive Bibby Gignilliat and her team recently introduced a new offering: For $45 per person, companies can bring employees for a cooking demonstration rather than having employees fix dishes themselves. Gignilliat feels they're more marketable right now. "We're trying to get into budgets that aren't going to be eliminated in this economy."

SAN FRANCISCO: Steve Jakosa, leader of the Emerald Palace cooking team, had just taken off his apron and sat down to enjoy his dinner when the bad news came. His team's Mongolian beef had lost.
Across the room, the Wok Stars, Jakosa's opponents, cheered over their sweet soy and chili flank steak.
It was a cook-off with decidedly corporate overtones as the group of amateur chefs from UBS, the financial services company, divided into two teams and donned aprons one recent evening at Sur La Table, a kitchen and tableware store in this food-obsessed city.
Jakosa stood to make a toast. "I just want to tell you I'm devastated we didn't win the protein category," he said in jest. |

Suddenly Single:
Wacky new ways to meet someone. If you believe the way to someone’s heart is through the stomach, you may be right. But here’s a new twist on the food-love equation: Several companies are betting that if you get single people together, teach them how to cook dinner — and let them enjoy the results together — you’ll do more than boost culinary skills. You may just heat up their love life, too.

Hey, Good-Looking, Want To Stir My Cookie Batter?By Monica Eng- Tribune Staff Reporter
Sizing up potential mates while trying to look cute, sound witty and chew demurely is hard and dangerous work. So you’d think that adding hot ovens, boiling oil and sharp knives to the equation would be a bad idea. Not so, I discovered at a recent Chicago installment of Parties that Cook, a national culinary program that hosts singles cooking classes.
