Make Mom's Day Special
By Jialin Luh

Mother's Day is just around the corner. Are you prepared? Whether you're still searching for the perfect bauble or a pampering treatment as a thank you for the mothers in your life, there's still plenty to choose from. Here are some ideas for making this Mother's Day the best yet.

The Sak Mother's Day Warehouse Sale
April 30th – May 1st: Mama got a hankerin' for handbags? Don't miss the Sak Brand Group's Mother's Day Warehouse Sale, kicking off today through tomorrow Saturday May 1st. The brand group encompasses The Sak, Elliot Lucca, freeBird, Luxy, Lina and The Sakroots (eco-friendly bags) brands.

Forget retail prices; all bags here range from $5 to $60, and if you purchase 10 handbags, the eleventh is free! Stock up on your gifts for the whole year and beyond.

Get Coiffed at Sassoon
Book appointments for you and your mom for May 3rd through May 8th for $20 off cut and color services. Get pampered, posher, and prettier together at the cutting-edge salon for a sweet bonding experience.

Feria Urbana
May 7th: Jaunt over to the 510 for this fair that features wares from local artists and designers. Expect to find unique clothing, jewelry, artwork, home accessories, ceramics, fashion accessories, baby items, and more while enjoying beats from local DJs, food, and cocktails. It's a perfect opportunity to find some locally made gifts while supporting the local artisan community, and it coincides with Oakland's Art Murmur. Admission is free.

Mother's Day Weekend Orchid Sale & Show 2010
May 7th – May 9th: Better than cut flowers that eventually wither, potted orchid plants continue to give when properly cared for. The Orchid Society of California hosts its Annual Mother's Day Sale and Show in Oakland at the Lakeside Garden Center near Lake Merritt with free admission. Plant doctors and experts will be on hand for demos and education.

Free Paint Session at Terra Mia Ceramic Studios
May 9th: If Mom's in town for Mother's Day, treat her to a free ceramic painting session at this cutesy art studio in Noe Valley. Can't get together that day? Make a date to paint together on another occasion — studio time is only $10 for unlimited use in one day. Bring the little ones and get their hands or feet imprinted in clay, and paint it up to create a custom keepsake that will be treasured for years.

Mother's Day BikeAbout
May 9th: Enjoy a leisurely hour-and-a-half tour of the San Francisco Zoo culminating in a continental breakfast. Zoo members pay $25, non-members $30, and children on parents' bikes are $7. Pre-registration required.

Mother's Day Brunch Cooking Class
May 9th: Sip mimosas with Mom at the Ferry Building while learning to whip up a gourmet brunch with Parties That Cook. Once the cooking and instruction is over, dine on a brunch buffet. The menu includes crostini of fava beans with mint and shaved pecorino, chorizo and potato spanish tortilla bites, little gratins of spinach and parmesan, mini sour cream and raspberry coffee cakes with brown sugar-pecan topping, and more.

Bell And Trunk Flowers
Floral arrangements, tried and true, will bring joy to most recipients. Spend $75 on flowers anytime throughout the month of May and get $10 off (delivery fee excluded).
