San Francisco, Calif.—January 19, 2010—Local culinary events company Parties That Cook® will host Cooking for a Cause, a cooking party fundraiser, on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Crushpad Winery in San Francisco. Entry is $95 per person, and includes an interactive cooking experience, small plates meal and a sampling of Crushpad wines. All event proceeds will go to Room to Read, a non-profit organization that helps millions of children gain access to education in developing countries.

San Francisco Event Benefits Room to Read to Help Needy Children in Developing Nations

San Francisco, Calif.—January 19, 2009—Local culinary events company Parties That Cook® will host Cooking for a Cause, a cooking party fundraiser, on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Crushpad Winery in San Francisco. Entry is $95 per person, and includes an interactive cooking experience, small plates meal and a sampling of Crushpad wines. All event proceeds will go to Room to Read, a non-profit organization that helps millions of children gain access to education in developing countries.

In true Parties That Cook fashion, the event will kick off with a lively culinary demonstration followed by a cooking session, where guests will come together to create and enjoy mouthwatering dishes while mingling and sampling some of Crushpad's original wines. Whole Foods Market will donate fresh ingredients for the menu, which consists of dishes from regions served by Room to Read, including Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa. Guests will have the opportunity to cook one of the following small plates:

Indian-Spiced Lamb Burgers with Cucumber Raita
Peanut and Coconut Pot Stickers with Sweet and Spicy Soy Dipping Sauce
Lettuce Cups with Gingery Pork and Shiitake Mushrooms
Grilled Shrimp Skewers with Mint-Jalapeno Sauce
Veggie Curry Cups with Basmati Rice
Chicken Skewers with Spicy Peanut Sauce
Bacon-Wrapped Plums Filled with Blue Cheese and Balsamic-Honey Glaze
Curried Flatbread with Mango-Currant Chutney
Coconut Cupcakes with Coconut Cream Frosting

After dinner, Room to Read Founder John Wood will share the organization's story and why he has dedicated his life to providing much needed educational resources to children in developing nations. Room To Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools and providing education to girls. To date, they have built 7,526 libraries and 832 schools.

Cooking for a Cause tickets are still available for purchase here. People unable to attend the event can show their support for Room to Read's efforts by making a donation. When donating via the online form, Cooking for a Cause should be mentioned in the "tribute" field on the donation form. Tickets are not tax deductible, but donations made at the event will be.
